Film & Television

April Mial is president, Executive Producer and writer for Lilac Films, a faith-based company. The motto for the company is “Do Dream. Have Faith. Do Work. Fulfill Purpose.” Her background and experience includes television and film production, as well as published writings. April’s television experience began in Public Affairs at WRDC-TV (UPN 28) and in television production at WLFL-TV (WB 22) and WNCN-TV (NBC17). Working in television April learned the discipline involved in putting together a newscast, the importance of research and super serving a targeted audience.

While in New York April interned at Spike Lee’s Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks.  Here she learned about reading and writing scripts; she later moved over to the Terrie Williams Agency, where she got a ground floor opportunity to learn what it means to be a great publicist working with clients like Eddie Murphy, Master P and Essence Magazine. April later returned to North Carolina and founded Lilac Films where she has produced several shorts, a full-feature, a gospel production and a television series. Her credits include “Boy Bye” (music video), “Who Is Felicia?” (short/comedy), “Fall From Grace” (short/drama),”Am I Your Favorite?” (short/drama), “Revelation” (short/drama), “Torn” (full feature/drama) and “Butterfly Wings” (full-length play/gospel). She has partnered with Third Edge Productions to produce “Down South” (full feature/comedy) and “Directed By Zahra” (television sitcom series). April has published a book detailing her journey of becoming a filmmaker in a male dominated arena, “Out on a Limb … and Still Standing.”
