2005 Strategic Partnerships Add Value
to the NABFEME Membership
NABFEME, the premiere organization for Black
women in entertainment, continues to expand and develop alliances
that make being a NABFEME member more valuable for your career.
Here's what's new
HealthFirst New York comes aboard
as a NABFEME partner in 2005 offering FREE or reduced
health care to members of the organization in New York and
New Jersey. NABFEME President Johnnie Walker stated, "through
our many business encounters, we found many of our members
especially artists, artist managers, entrepreneurs, even some
radio and television personnel that did not have health care
benefits. For many women or single parents, trying to manage
a career and family without health care offers a tremendous
pressure. We began looking for facilities that could possibly
help us ease this problem. Our National Events Manager, Imelba
Martinez suggested we meet with George Hulse of HealthFirst.
The meeting was an amazing success and resulted in NABFEME
being able to offer its (New York and New Jersey) members
strategic health care based on the individual member's economic
condition. Mr. Hulse of HealthFirst had this to say,
"we are constantly looking for avenues to expose the
programs and services offered by HealthFirst, partnering
with NABFEME makes good business sense for our operations
and opens another door of opportunity for us."
BLACK ELEGANCE Magazine comes to
NABFEME in 2005 as a Strategic Media Partner. Part of the
deal will be to offer the placement of the NABFEME newsletter,
WOMENET in each issue of Black Elegance Magazine.
According to Johnnie Walker, President of NABFEME, "we
were struggling to print 1500 newsletters each quarter; this
partnership takes the burden of publishing the newsletter
out of our hands and puts NABFEME in the face of 100,000 Black
Elegance readers!" NABFEME officers Shelia Jenkins
and Kristen Buchanan struck the deal with Publisher and Editor-In-Chief,
Flo Anthony. Look for WOMENET in the January 2005 issue of
Black Elegance Magazine right after the Boris Kodjoe
and Nicole Parker story. NABFEME members will receive Black
Elegance Magazine "free" as a member
benefit.
NABFEME welcomes savvy entrepreneur Malaika
Moran and SOCIAL STEP.COM, the home of the "social
professional," for what promises to be an exciting joint
venture between the two fast growing organizations. NABFEME
President Johnnie Walker stated, "Malaika knows every
event, everywhere
who's doing it and why, plus what
makes the event hot and appealing to professionals. We're
excited to be on her team!!" Through the SOCIALSTEP.COM
website, NABFEME is now able to connect with an exciting generation
of social professionals and entertainment executives."
To further the efforts of the NABFEME Collegiate
Committee, NABFEME recently formed a strategic partnership
with the HBCU Network. This online initiative will
keep NABFEME abreast of collegiate activities across the nation
and will provide a pipeline to tomorrow's leaders. NABFEME
currently manages network activities on 10 HBCUs across the
USA.
UMAC, the Urban Music Association
of Canada is the most recent powerhouse to join NABFEME as
a strategic partner. Recently NABFEME president, Johnnie Walker
and VP of Operations, Shelia Jenkins, met with the officials
of UMAC to consummate the relationship between the
organizations. "NABFEME has a huge membership base in
Canada, therefore a partnership with UMAC helps us to better
serve our Canadian sisters," according to NABFEME President,
Johnnie Walker. Longtime NABFEME member and Executive Director
of UMAC, Aisha Wickham stated the combination of forces between
NABFEME and UMAC promises to produce positive results for
everyone involved.
