Regina Cameron
Epicurean Records
Enter a new decade, a new millennium and
Independent record labels have never been stronger. Their
ability to move quickly and their uncanny sense of the streets
have clearly made them forces to be reckoned with. One of
this years hottest newcomers epitomizes what independent labels
are all about and is rapidly becoming a force on the West
Coast...Epicurean Records. The Label, based in Los Angeles
began operations in September of 1998. The concept to launch
a record label was developed earlier by Demetri Cameron and
brother George Cameron, Jr.
In 1995, George Jr. died and his younger
sister Regina Cameron, stepped into the picture to fulfill
her brother's dreams. As things began to progress for the
company, Regina once again had to deal with another devastating
lost, when her brother and partner Demetri passed away on
Easter Sunday of last year.
Even in the face of these tragic losses,
Regina remained focused and continued to build Epicurean Records
into a thriving independent empire and has recently joined
forces with pointD.com (Point of Distribution) a start-up
eCommerce distribution company focusing on exposing independent
artists to global communities.
After launching the Label CEO, Regina Cameron
along with her dynamic staff first released "PhD."
in Digital Surround Sound by Tony -o, an artist from Seattle,
debuted at #27 on Billboards Hot Rap Singles chart. They maintained
their position for 30 weeks topping the charts at #17 and
appearing on Billboards 1999 Special Year-End Issue at #46
in the top 50 Hot Rap Singles category.
Regina has lead Epicurean'' premiere artist
Tony -o, to over 35,000 (31,500 SoundScan) in sales in just
five months. Epicurean Records independently distributed "PhD."
(playa hata degree) Maxi-CD and Maxi-Cassette singles sold
across the country to independent retailers. This influenced
their artist Tony -o's nomination and later recipient of the
1999 Single of the Year Group or Duo by the "Pacific
Northwest Music Awards" sponsored in part by BMG and
hosted by KUBE (P1 in Seattle, WA.) and Tony B. Promotions.
Epicurean has licensed songs from Tony -o's
upcoming debut CD album to Evan Greenspan, Inc for the HBO
series "Arliess" show title "You Gotta Love
This Game" staring John Starks (2 songs), Emmett/Furla
Films current feature film "After Sex" (1 song)
staring Brooke Shields and Shooting Stars upcoming feature
"Road Dogz" (2 songs) staring Jacob Vargas, Clifton
Collins, Jr. and Greg Serano.
The Company expects to release two new singles by Summer of
the year 2000 and a full length CD. Epicurean currently has
three negotiation agreements with artist for future recordings
with their fourth in.
The Label expects that all of its future
recording will feature surround sound and enhanced multimedia
capabilities (Enhanced CDs" or E-CDs") and Internet
connectivity software.
Traditional domestic distribution for the
record label is handled by Southern Music Distribution ("SMD").
Regina's plan is to focus primarily on hip hop first and slowly
build a roster of R&B, Alternative Rap, as well as Jazz
artists. As Epicurean continues to succeed, the Label's projects
will lead back into the community in the form of neighborhood
programs and scholarships in the memory of George Jr. and
Demetri.
