Yvonne Daniels
Professional Broadcaster
Regarded as one of the first national women
pioneers in professional broadcasting... Yvonne Daniels worked
in Chicago for over thirty-five (35) years. Her voice was
heard on stations like WVON, WSDM, WGCI, WNUA and WLS. Her
silky smooth professional speaking voice garnered ratings
wherever she worked. In fact, most people outside of Chicago
and across the country did not know Yvonne Daniels was Black.
Her savvy talent, creative personality and know how served
as a role model and blueprint for women, Black and White who
were interested in careers in broadcasting.
A recipient of many awards, her most notable
is a street in downtown Chicago that is named in her honor.
An avid humanitarian, Yvonne made personal appearances and
worked FREE to raise money for worthwhile charities. She started
"The Food Drive Campaign," which was adopted by
many radio stations across the country. The voice of Chicago's
Metro Music for more than twenty-four (24) years, Yvonne Daniels
produced, was featured in, or was the voice of more than twenty
seven hundred (2700) commercials for radio and TV. Throughout
her career, she appeared in more than nine hundred (900) artist
in-stores and is responsible for the creation of the slogan,
"Give The Gift of Music." The "Give The Gift
of Music" slogan became the National Association of Record
Manufacturers,' (better known as NARM,) Christmas marketing
campaign for all of the record industry and is still currently
being used today!
Yvonne Daniels' greatest passion was for
women in radio to get more respect in the industry. She also
wanted more women in radio and she wanted women to be better
paid. Also a great vocalist, Yvonne Daniels, was the daughter
of Billy Daniels, who is best remembered for the song, "That
Old Black Music."
