Michelle B. Jackson
Marketing and Public Relations Consultant
Meet the "PR Goddess"
the
name to know when you need promotion, marketing and publicity
that targets the right people, in the right places, at the
right time!
Michelle B. Jackson is a New York City based
marketing and public relations consultant. She formed her
practice in Cleveland, Oh., in 1984 after a stint as a buyer
for a 14-store retail chain and following a detour to law
school. Responding to the dearth of executives of color among
the ranks of the established PR and ad agencies of the day,
Michelle B. decided that the only way to get hired on the
level she desired was to employ herself. While in Cleveland,
she specialized in designing sales and communications strategies
for high-tech concerns, including an organization that provided
technology transfer services to Fortune 1000 companies.
Michelle B. relocated to northern California
in 1987 and expanded her business to include real estate firms
and companies doing business with the Pacific Rim. Because
of the importance of gift giving among Japanese business people,
Michelle B. created an ancillary business, "The Gift
Advantage, " to help U.S. executives navigate the complex
protocol of multicultural, strategic "gifting."
In the early 90's after adding event design
and management to her repertoire, Michelle B. landed contract
work at WGBH in Boston, the major producer of public television
programming in the nation. As a consultant there, she managed
fund raising projects including on-air pledge drives and outdoor
events. She then joined the House of Blues Foundation, a nonprofit
project of HOB Entertainment, as Marketing Director. The next
move was a gig as Regional Marketing Manager for Shanachie
Entertainment, which eventually brought Michelle B. Jackson
to New York where she refined her business focus: Arts, Artists,
Events!
Michelle B.'s recent arts and entertainment
clients have included First Night Boston, a 12-hour event
that features 1000 paid artists in 50 venues that include
225 performances; the New York City Band, Afroblue, winners
of three (3) 1999 songwriting awards---including the prestigious
John Lennon Songwriting Contest; vocalist Titilayo, who in
1999 was featured in Billboard, The Boston Globe, Sunday Magazine
and on NPR's "All Things Considered" and Jazz singer
Ron Gill, who was a featured performer at the 1999 Ottawa
International Jazz Festival in Canada.
Well rounded, well focused and prepared
to accept any challenge, Michelle points out as another high
point in her career, her communications degree from Spelman
College in Atlanta, GA, which included a concentration in
radio broadcasting. This prepared her for her fantasy job,
that of being the cool radio jock listened to and loved by
thousands; Michelle hosted a nightly program on Clark College
Jazz radio, WCLK.
