Television and film actress A.J. Johnson has turned a healthy lifestyle into a thriving business, and in a very short time has become one of the most sought after fitness trainers and lifestyle coaches around. "My mother died one month after being diagnosed with cancer," A.J. recalls, "this was a woman who had maybe one cold that 1 can remember during the 18 years 1 had with her. A cousin, who is like my sister, lost a breast at the age of 38. This was unacceptable to me, so 1 did research out of concern for my own health," A.J. continues, "I learned that most illnesses and diseases which end in fatality are primarily due to poor exercise and a stressful lifestyle." A.J. realizes that death is an inevitable part of life, but she refuses to be an active participant in her demise. "I decided at my mother's funeral that whenever it's my turn to leave this life, an unhealthy lifestyle would not be part of that equation. No excuses!" And with that declaration, "The A.J. Way… No Excuses" was born.

 

"The A.J. Way… No Excuses" is the philosophy that governs A.J.'s healthy lifestyle. Believing that a healthy person is a whole person and there is no excuse to be less than that, A.J. focuses on the health of each piece of the self  the mental, the spiritual, the nutritional, the emotional, and the physical, to create total peace.

Living the A.J. Way has not only brought A.J. Johnson self satisfaction, but has also brought satisfaction to a variety of celebrity clients including Academy Award winning actress Julia Roberts, rapper/actress/talk show host Queen Latifah, athlete Kenny Lofton and boxing great Evander Holyfield, to name a few. Even folks behind the scenes such as Academy Award nominated director John Singleton and Academy Award winning producer Wendy Finerman are living life "The A.J. Way."

 

Her "no excuses" approach to living has hit the pages of some of today's most popular magazines including Jane, Savoy, Elle, and Upscale. She's also given healthy living advice to Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, and the ladies of Oh Drama (Bill). Additionally, A.J. is spokesperson for the California 5 A Day Program, a program designed to encourage Californians to consume five or more servings of fruit and vegetables every day and maintain a specified level of physical activity; Health and Fitness Director of the National Association of Securities Professionals and the American Black Film Festival in Miami (formerly known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival); as well as the Spokesperson for the National Association of Black Females in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) promoting a stress-free life in the workplace.

 

A Magna cum Laude graduate of the prestigious Spelman College, A.J. has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. The former Miss Collegiate Black America was discovered by acclaimed director Spike Lee when she was crowned Miss Morehouse, (homecoming queen for Lee's alma mater Morehouse College) who immediately cast her in her film debut, "School Daze." After college, A.J. continued to make a name for herself in Hollywood with roles in the urban comedy "House Party," poignant coming of age drama "The Inkwell," and psychological thriller "Tara." She 'Went on to star opposite Julia Roberts in "Dying Young" (20th Century Fox), Sylvester Stallone in "Assassins" (Warner Bros.) and with Academy award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister Act" (Buena Vista). Most recently, A.J. was cast at the lead in John Singleton's latest coming of age drama "Baby Boy," co-starring with singer/actor Tyrese.

 

A.J. also has extensive credits in television with appearances and recurring roles in programs such as "Chicago Hope" (CBS), "Jag" (CBS) the "Jamie Foxx Show" (WB) and "In the Heat of the Night" (CBS) for which she received an Emmy nomination. A true Renaissance woman, she's also choreographed music videos for artists including Levert, New Edition and Jody Whatley and created the A.J. Johnson Performing Arts Foundation (AJJPAF). Conceived out of a burgeoning desire to give back to the community, the AJJPAF, with the guidance of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), has allowed young people a chance to dream. It provides an opportunity for college graduates to travel to Hollywood to meet and learn from executives in music, film, television and literature.

 

A.J. is currently on a promotional tour to promote her motivational and workout CD and DVD, designing her website and preparing to launch her AJ Way clothing line. So what are you waiting for? Come on and try a better way... The AJ Way. There's no excuse!
