Nannette Lee
Co-host KKDA's "Skip Murphy & Company."
Nanette Lee is one of Black comedy's fastest-rising,
young comediennes!! When she's not on stage at the Improv
or a like Dallas venue, you'll find Nanette gracing the airwaves
of KKDA/K-104. In her Dallas, TX hometown, she has rapidly
garnered reputations as queen of radio and queen of the city's
comedy scene.
To watch Lee at work, handling both the
microphone and her audience with professional ease and savvy
by jabbing with good-natured humor and sometimes biting sarcasm,
one would never guess that she grew up as the shyest of four
children. Yet, her closest friends would always find themselves
laughing with her while at school in Dallas.
Until a few years ago, she earned her living
working as a drugstore clerk and selling children's clothing
at a department store. But Lee, who had always loved comedy
and radio, decided to trade her day jobs for a chance at fame.
She began making the rounds at "Open Mic" nights
at popular nightspots in Dallas/Fort Worth. Before long, her
calendar filled up with engagements wherever there was a microphone
and an audience looking for laughs, or where there was a comedy
contest to enter.
Well positioned, Nanette's career took a
towering launch. Not only can the hot talent be heard on stage,
but she can be heard on the radio as well. Lee is the co-host
of Dallas/Fort Worth's #1 morning radio show, Skip Murphy
& Company, heard on KKDA/K-104. Over the years, Lee has
received many awards, including the Improv's coveted "Funniest
Female in Dallas" award in 1992. She was a finalist in
the Zanies Comedy Competition Laff-Off in Nashville, and the
Texas-based Funny Bone's "Best of the West Competition."
As her reputation grew, so did the demand
for her talent. Lee began opening for some of the hottest
comedy acts, performing with such big-named stars as George
Wallace, Sinbad and Byron Allen. She has also worked with
Kim Coles, Mark Curry, David Allen Grier, Shirley Hemphill
and Marsha Warfield.
A natural actress, Lee has performed on
stage in Straight Talk and The Night I Fell in Love. Her television
credits include appearances on Dallas' ABC News, ShowTime
at the Apollo, HBO's Def Comedy Jam and BET's Comic View.
