Kevin Liles
President, Def Jam/Def Soul
Traveling through the hallways of Def Jam
Recordings as an intern to his plush Worldwide Plaza corner
office as president must have been quite a trip, but it was
one easily navigated by thirty year old Kevin Liles. Def Jam
Recordings CEO, Lyor Cohen states, "Kevin's promotion
to President is an important step in the development of Def
Jam. Kevin has grown with us and has been instrumental in
expanding our repertoire of artists. His promotion will enhance
our ability to service and promote our artists as we continue
to broaden the label with new and innovative performers."
Prior to being named President, Kevin was
General Manager of Def Jam. He joined the Def Jam staff in
1992 as the intern of the Mid Atlantic Regional Manager. After
two years, Kevin was hired as Def Jam's Mid Atlantic Manager.
In 1994, Kevin took the position of General Manager of promotions,
West Coast. There he spearheaded Def Jam's promotional efforts
on West Coast, including hiring a West Coast staff and creating
grass roots promotional campaigns while searching for new
talent. In 1996, he was promoted again, this time to General
Manager/VP of promotions.
Kevin Liles began his career in the entertainment
industry as a member of the rap group, Numarx. Before joining
Def Jam, he was co-founder and president of MBR, Marx Bros.
Records.
Kevin's quote for success: "I know
that successful individuals refuse to be defeated. Therefore,
I am what I believe myself to be."
