Creating the messages that have put some
of America's top selling recording artists on the map is NABFEME
Power Mover Thembisa Mshaka. Thembisa is an Advertising Copywriter
for Sony Music. She is responsible for developing advertising
campaigns for Sony Music's hip-hop, reggae, R&B and Crossover
artists. In less than a year, Thembisa created the award-winning
advertising campaign for five (5) time Grammy winner Lauryn
Hill, and has conceptualized the advertising for Kenny Lattimore,
George Michael, Ginuwine, Jermaine Dupri, NAS, Maxwell, and
Babyface to name a few.
Prior to joining Sony Music, Thembisa held
the position of Gavin's first Black female Rap Editor for
five years. She was instrumental in breaking many of today's
hottest hip-hop artists, including Busta Rhymes, The Fugees,
and Timbaland through seminars, features and music reviews.
You'll often find Thembisa utilizing her
moderating and public speaking talents on various panels during
workshops and seminars. She has appeared at ASCAP's Real Stories,
Borders Books & Music, The Vibe Music Seminar and New
York University. She is also a Contributing Editor for BLAZE
magazine, and writes a column called The Monthly Flow, which
addresses the convergence of gender and hip-hop culture in
a progressive, groundbreaking journalistic style. An established
authority on urban culture, the music industry and radio,
her opinions and insights have been featured in VIBE, The
Source, RapPages, and several newspapers and television programs.
Thembisa's career began at Absolute Artists,
a small but powerful booking agency, as Manager of Artist
Relations. In this position she worked with music legends
George Clinton, Etta James, Junior Walker, and Gil-Scott Heron.
Add past and current achievements to her freelance writing
and consulting enterprise, SEEIT Live, and you have a truly
dynamic executive whose finger is counting a beat ahead of
the pulse. Thembisa holds a degree in International Relations
and Ethnic Studies from Mills College in Oakland, California.
