DETROIT BLACK FEMALE MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT EXECUTIVES JOIN NATIONAL AFFILIATE TO GET EQUAL SHARE AND IMPROVE CORPORATE ALLIANCES
NEW CHAPTER CELEBRATION TO BE HELD AT THE OLD FORD EXECUTIVE MANSION

DETROIT, MI -The National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment, Inc., a nonprofit group found in New York in 1999 by Ms. Johnnie Walker former Executive VP at Dream Works and Def Jam Records, will confirm the opening of an affiliate division in the city of Detroit on February 25, 2005.

Gwen Thomas, a Metro-Detroiter and entertainment marketing consultant was named President of NABFEME - Detroit, just a few months ago. The new chapter (known as regional networks) will raise the profile and elevate the awareness of Black women in the music and entertainment business in the City of Detroit. NABFEME accomplishes its mission through activities that foster empowerment, education, mentoring, career development and networking. The primary purpose of the organization
is to promote the entry, development and advancement of Black Women in the music and entertainment industry.

According to Gwen Thomas, "There are a lot of talented black females in Detroit who are often over looked for employment or contracting opportunities. This is a city that is 80% African-American, 53% of that population is female, and 60% black female, so that makes us the majority population in Detroit, but we don't usually have a seat at the negotiation or planning table when it comes to making any relevant decisions regarding entertainment properties, procurement, concerns or the infrastructure of entertainment venues in this town. For decades it has continually been the good old boys network. We hope that we can use the organization as a platform to resolve the racial, economic and sexual divide and favorably build corporate alliances that will provide opportunities for our members and re-build all facets of Detroit's entertainment industry encompassing our talents."

NABFEME is led by volunteer executives who are making significant influences and strides across the country. The City of Detroit joins as number 15 amongst other major cities across the US in the last five years to open affiliate NABFEME networks.

The NABFEME - Detroit Network will hold its "official" Induction ceremony and kick off reception on Friday, February 25, 2005, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the Joseph Galamb Mansion on the Detroit Golf Club. Many of Detroit's most accomplished and established music managers, artists, composers, agents, film, television, cable, producers, radio, theater, athletes, attorneys and entertainment executives will attend the very first event of its type in Detroit. Guests will be the prominent entertainment executives who define entertainment for the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan along with corporate and municipal partners who can benefit from their services. Performances will be held by Detroit's own Catrina Harding and Angela May. Special guest will include a surprise national artist.

The historical Joseph Galamb Mansion was built in 1926. Joseph Galamb was the architect for the home. He was however most notably known as Henry Ford's highest ranking executive at Ford Motor Company (1917-). Joseph Galamb was responsible for designing the Model T for Ford Motor Co. When the Galamb mansion was sold two years ago, it was ranked as the most expensive home to ever be sold in the history of the City of Detroit.
