"If it doesn't empower you, it disables you"... this is the mantra that Marketing Director for Radio One. - Detroit's Urban Radio Store, Vicki Preston lives and works by. This philosophy is fueling the success of three stations, WDTJ, WDMK and WCHB-AM. One station, one listener, one rating at a time, Preston is making her three stations household names and leaders in the Detroit market.

 

Vicki Preston is a graduate of Tuskegee University where she earned a B.A. in Accounting; she is also a Certified Public Accountant. One of the more interesting details of Vicki's education is that she was raised and schooled in Bermuda; Vicki credits her strong and disciplined work ethic as a result of growing up abroad, as well as working as an accountant.

 

Hard work and discipline is just what it took when Vicki Preston developed, promoted and facilitated one of the largest, free music festivals in Detroit... "The 105.9 Summer JAMZ." Over half million people attend the event annually. Preston didn't stop there, she is the creator of the Kiss 102.7 "Nourishment for the Soul Series," in which world famous Bishop TD Jakes was the featured speaker and she also created the "Business 2 Business Roundtable" for WCHB AM 1200. All of these events reach, entertain and touch thousands of people every year. Preston is committed to making every event bigger and better with each passing year; to her there is no such thing as a perfect event, she never rests on her successes.

 

Vicki has performed many duties for what has become Radio One, Inc. - Detroit. It was her passion for different types of music that got her started in the business. Under Bell Broadcasting leadership back in 1996, she started her career in radio as the Music Director and Assistant Program Director. Over a three-year period, Vicki continued to climb the ranks and added Marketing Director for Radio One - Detroit to her resume. This trendsetter - trailblazer uses "she-marketing" to reach listeners; simply put her marketing strategy interacts with listeners, and crates lifestyle events that impact them everyday. Preston's global perspective on how to succeed has proven to be effective in the market palace and her career. She is definitely one to watch.
