Lady Sax
When Lady Sax performed in Toronto at NABFEME's "Women
Who Jam" all female concert, she wowed attendees, captured
new fans and brought the house down!
Born into a family tree full of musicians,
Ernie Delores (Lady Sax) Shelby is a well-versed vocalist,
saxophonist and composer. And while Earnie Shelby - "Lady
Sax" is musically inclined, she is also a businesswoman.
She is president and owner of her entertainment corporation,
Dimples Company. Here she records and produces commercial
jingles and demo projects in her eight-track studio. And,
to make sure her musical legacy is carried to the next generation,
she also teaches beginning saxophone in her spare time.
As an elementary school student, Lady Sax
scored second in a citywide musical aptitude test. After one
summer of playing violin, she asked to be transferred to the
school's band. Upon her transfer she found that all the "feminine"
instruments had been taken, her teacher then assigned her
to play the alto saxophone. Astounding the teacher with her
talent, her first note was as clear as a bell!
Versatility is the backdrop for Lady Sax's
career. In 1976 she was crowned Miss Black Expo-Indiana. She
has performed as co-host of a local Indiana cable show has
appeared in the local production of "Your Arms Are Too
short to Box with GOD," and she has produced a demo for
Earth, Wind and Fire's label. Lady Sax's versatility has taken
her from the studio performing on a McDonald's commercial,
to being saxophonist, vocalist, keyboardist and financial
secretary with The Fabulous Kings for six years! She has also
opened for Denise LaSalle, Roger, Zapp, Little Milton and
many others. She has drawn standing ovations in many local
and Chicago area churches for her gospel renditions.
Lady Sax's performances are perfect for
that special wedding, award dinners, intermissions in fashion
and art gallery shows, political or Christian functions, or
any easy listening affair or occasion. She is a "One
Person Show" with her state of the art sound system and
musical tracks. Lady Sax also performs as a featured artist
with local jazz pianists, jazz combos, top 40 bands, and rhythm
and blues bands. You can contact Lady Sax at: .
