Tosha Thomas
Urban Network "Snapshots" Coordinator
As the Urban Network "Snapshots"
Coordinator, Detroit native Tosha Yvonne Thomas provides a
valuable link of pictorial exposure for executives in the
music and entertainment industry. Anytime you flip through
the pages of The Urban Network, one of the industry's most
trusted trade publications, you'll see the handiwork of Tosha
Thomas.
Tosha attended Howard University in Washington
DC where her studies involved radio production and communications.
More of a "hands-on" person with tenacity and a
very high spirit, Tosha found out about a unique opportunity
within National Public Radio and pursued it! At NPR, students
were allowed to produce programming and this sparked Tosho's
interest and led her to the world of broadcast journalism.
Adhering to the philosophy that luck is
simply preparation meeting opportunity, Tosha began work at
Howard University's student-run WHBC-AM as an on-air personality
and assistant music director. In her junior and sophomore
years, she was an intern at WHUR-FM, Washington, DC's #1 urban
radio station and birthplace of the "Quiet Storm"
format.
After graduating from Howard University
with a B.A. in Communications and a double minor in Journalism
and African-American studies, Tosha took a position as a segment
producer for the independently owned national news service,
TPT News. While news radio was a great learning experience,
Tosha's heart was in Urban radio, she later returned to the
halls of WHUR-FM as assistant to Program Director, Hector
Hannibal. Under Hector's tutelage, she was able to learn many
aspects of programming and the business of radio.
Eager to learn more, coupled with the desire
to spread her wings, Tosha moved to California where she began
work at The Urban Network. Under the supervision of Graham
Armstrong and the mentoring of Miller London, Tosha quickly
moved from being a Radio Research Associate, to Urban Network's
"woman of many hats." She soon stepped up to Snap
Shots Coordinator and in the latter part of her four-year
tenure at Urban Network, her duties expanded into the Gospel
arena, as Gospel Chart Coordinator for the Heavenly Hits feature.
Tosha also performs as the CD co-coordinator for Urban Network's
Future Jams.
In her spare time Tosha loves to cook and
enjoys the company of her many friends and industry associates.
Her future goals include the publishing her first novel that
involves her true-to-life experiences at Howard University
and completion of her studies for a Masters Degree.
