Jennifer Wiggins
Producer, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia
Few people know what career path to take
or what they want to do in life. For Jennifer E. Wiggins the
choice was easy... communications. Even as a little girl she
had the gift of communication, always telling great stories
and painting pictures with words. This unique natural born
talent, coupled with a strong education has made Jennifer
one of the few "twenty-something" television producers
in the country today.
She currently oversees a major television
news show in a top five-news market. As morning show producer
for WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, "Rising Young Executive"
is only the beginning, as this young producer maven is headed
straight to the top of her field!
While a freshman in high school Jennifer
and her family moved from Chicago to McComb, MS. It was during
the summer of her junior year that she first encountered journalism;
she was involved in a freak accident that almost left her
paralyzed. When she returned to school from summer break,
Jennifer had a broken arm with bumps and bruises, her English
teacher inquired and Jennifer explained, very dramatically.
And after hearing Jennifer's story, the teacher who was also
the school's newspaper adviser, asked her to write about it
for the school newspaper. The story was a hit on campus and
in the local community.
After graduating from high school in 1990,
Jennifer furthered her education by attending Florida A&M
University in Tallahassee, FL where she immediately got involved
with the Student Government Association. As a sophomore, Jennifer
and another classmate, took over FAMU's defunct yearbook operations
and published a $30,000 yearbook on a $2500 budget. Realizing
her future was heading in a much bigger direction, Jennifer
switched her major from print journalism to broadcast journalism.
This was a move that would change her life. After graduating
from FAMU in August of 1994. Jennifer accepted an internship
at WLS-TV in Chicago, which turned into a part time job, that
eventually lead to an associate producing position at WBAL
in Baltimore, MD.
After two and a half years of moving up
the ladder at WBAL as morning producer, Jennifer was offered
a morning show in Washington, DC. In the summer of 1999 after
two years in DC, Jennifer Wiggins accepted another morning
show position, but in this time in Philadelphia at WPVI-TV
the market's number one television station!
Currently an active member of the National
Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the Chicago Association
of Black Journalism (CABJ), Poynter fellow and a NABJ short
course instructor
ABC, NBC, CBS, only the major networks
