Executive Power Mover

Jodi Williams
Vice President, R&B Promotion RCA Records

Maintaining airplay, managing a coast-to-coast field staff, creating awareness campaigns for the complete artist roster, maintaining relationships with each individual artist and the respective artist's manger, tip sheet advertising, national consumer driver advertising, budget management, marketing plans, going for adds and rotation… a piece of cake!

While the above may seem like a lot of responsibility, they are all little items on the daily "things to do" list of Power Mover Jodi Williams. A Journalism graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and holder of a BS Degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, it's easy to see why Jodi is so successful. Jodi Williams has the foundation of a formally trained superstar, the personality and wit of a true "HomeGirl."

Most recently promoted to Vice President of R&B Promotion, RCA Records, Jodi's career embodies a long list of success stories and accomplishments. She began in the music & entertainment industry as a writer for BRE magazine. She later started her own R&B tip sheet known as the "Urban Music Report."

It was as a writer and publisher that she gained the attention of record company executives. Rubin Rodriguez, then VP of Promotions at Columbia Records, convinced Jodi to leave publishing and become his Northeast Regional Promotion Manager. In 1998, Gavin Magazine named her National Promotion Person of The Year. In 1992 she received a similar honor from Billboard's Magazine, being named the Local Promotion Person of the year.

Jodi continued to be a trendsetter and innovator with her groundbreaking development of the "Sony Breakfast Club." In an effort to alleviate some of the problems experienced by Independent Black Retailers, Jodi developed The Sony Breakfast Club, designed as a monthly meeting of mom and pop retailers, to address priorities and concerns. The concept is still being used today by Sony Music.

Here is a bullet point view of Jodi Williams' career:

  • 1987 – 1992 Northeast promotion Manager, Columbia Records
  • 1989 – 1992 National Director of Promotion, Warner Bros. Records
  • 1992 - 1994 Sr. Director of Marketing and Promotion, Eastwest/Atlantic Records
  • 1994 – 1998 Sr. National director of Urban Promotion, Mercury Records.
