The Women’s Gospel Summit: The Price of Being HER, recently held in Memphis, has already left a distinct mark on the faith-based and entertainment communities. Organized and presented by the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME), the event moved beyond traditional religious gatherings by functioning as a high-level strategic workshop for women in ministry, gospel music and leadership. Bottom Line: The summit’s impact was defined by its shift from “inspiration only” to “inspiration plus” which empowered a new wave of female leaders to treat their spiritual gifts with professional excellence, ensuring that their impact on the community is both high-reaching and long-lasting. Here’s an impact breakdown… The Women’s Gospel Summit:
One of the summit’s most significant contributions was its focus on the business of ministry. By bringing together Gospel artists (like Lisa Knowles-Smith, Mr. Del and Wendy Moten), legal experts (Heather Beverly and Lee Rankin), plus local businesswomen and corporate executives, the summit addressed the professional infrastructure often missing in faith-based spaces. It equipped women with “secular” tools such as music business strategy, legal protection, and branding to sustain their “sacred” callings.
The summit’s theme, “The Price of Being HER,” created a safe space to discuss the unspoken burdens of female leaders in faith-based callings. Through honest dialogue, seminars like High Heels in High Places® allowed influential women to share the costs of success, including emotional burnout, navigating gender stereotypes, and balancing family life. This sparked a broader conversation about mental health and resilience, moving away from the “superwoman” metaphor to a more sustainable, authentic model of leadership.
Unlike standard conferences that focus solely on business renewal, this summit focused on capacity building. The summit targeted the importance of skill-sharing. From seminars on recording contracts to marketing strategies for indie artists, the event provided tangible takeaways. Networking was a main highlight; by connecting church leaders, women in Gospel, community organizers, entertainment lawyers, and music executives… the summit facilitated cross-industry collaborations that typically wouldn’t occur in a Church service setting.
With the support of major figures like Jackie Patillo (President of the Gospel Music Association), Tennessee State Representative Karen Camper, Radio personality Sherry Mackie and others… the summit solidified the role of Black women as the “backbone” of the industry. It sent a clear message to the wider music industry that women in Gospel are not just performers but high-impact executives, leaders and cultural architects whose economic and social influence is essential to the genre’s survival.

What is a NABFEME BackStage Angel? This angel can be he or she… it is simply someone who genuinely cares; a person with a kind and generous heart — someone you feel comfortable confiding in or sharing experiences with. With a NABFEME Backstage Angel, you can truly be yourself and express your thoughts freely. Inspired by the bond of Sisterhood, this initiative was created to raise awareness about breast health and the emotional journey that comes with it — because no one should walk this path alone.
The NABFEME Sisterhood is building a nurturing, empowered community centered on breast health and cancer awareness. Cancer is a disease marked by the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells, which can invade and damage healthy tissue. It comes in many forms—breast, prostate, lung, and more—classified by where it begins. And while breast cancer is most often associated with women, everyone has a chest that can be affected. In entertainment and public life, the chest or bosom has long symbolized beauty, confidence, and power. It represents not just the body, but identity and presence. That’s why it’s so important to protect, honor, and celebrate it. Together, we aim to educate, support, and uplift—because showing up as our best selves means caring for every part of who we are.
Because breast cancer is more than a diagnosis—it’s a life-altering journey that touches not only those diagnosed but also their families, friends, and communities. Offering support during such a vulnerable time can bring comfort, strength, and hope to someone in need. The NABFEME BackStage Angels group is open to everyone—no background in music or entertainment is required. What matters most is compassion. Both men and women are welcome to join us. Whether you’re seeking support or ready to give it, we believe you belong here. Together, we’re building a safe, nurturing space filled with empathy, understanding, and sisterhood unity. This is your invitation to become a NABFEME BackStage Angel. Your presence matters, your support is valued, and your voice makes a difference!! If you’re Interested in joining our circle?
