As a teenager, Micheal’s journey began as a bagger at a local grocery store in his hometown of Grenada, Mississippi where he worked to finance his Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Mississippi State University.
Recently promoted to Vice President of Merchandising for The Kroger Company, in his previous position Micheal was Director of Operations for Kroger in Atlanta, GA where he was responsible for the sales/profit of 85 stores while leading a Team of over 11,000 employees. Micheal has improved sales within the Region by championing an improved shopping experience, high level merchandising standards, people development, and accountability of his Team to deliver the desired financial results. The high level merchandising standards and people development was instrumental in improving the shopping experience within his region as measured by Customer Tracker. During his tenure as District Manager within Little Rock AR, Micheal led a significant capital growth plan of six major store remodels along with having the Division’s first Marketplace Store format open within his District.
Because of Micheal’s significant leadership attributes, he was recommended by his company to attend FMI’s inaugural Future Connects Leadership Conference in 2009…a group of grocery industry’s retailer/suppliers management people that their companies have identified as emerging senior leaders of the future. Prior to becoming Director of Operations, Micheal has held several merchandising leadership positions having served as the Enterprise’s DrugGM Regional Sales-Planning Coordinator with responsibility of developing the department’s Regional Sales-Planning infrastructure. Micheal’s career with Kroger has spanned over 29 years. Micheal is known and respected for his knowledge of retail systems, ability to establish strong merchandising and operations teams that consistently outperforms the competition. He is a skilled leader, supervisor, trainer, and motivator at division and store levels.
Micheal has served on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Grocers & Retail Merchants Association, a member of the American Marketing Association, served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Memphis Affiliate of The National Urban League, a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys Club of Memphis, served as Vice Chair of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce’s Capital Campaign, the United Way Allocation Committee and International First Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
